SON OF A CHIEF
Searching for Paradise is the true story of Charles Nombo Lapa.
Charles Nombo Lapa was born as the son of a chief in the Southern Highlands of Papua New Guinea.
When the first missionaries and colonisers arrived in his valley, Charles watched his father lead their tribe through a time of change.
SOCIAL JUSTICE WARRIOR
As an adult, Charles moved to Port Moresby.
He became a pastor, evangelist and social justice warrior, working among the Raskol gangs. He and his wife Lucille established a Halfway House for men and women leaving the gangs.
SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER
Charles has been connected with several of Papua New Guinea’s prime ministers.
To some he was a friend and confidante. To others, he was a thorn in the flesh, speaking out against immorality and corruption.
THE STORY OF A NATION
Charles’ own story reflects the story of his country.
It is also a story of spirituality, exploring how faith can shape the life of an individual, a community or a nation.
